Meet Angela: Finding Closure & New Beginnings at Bryan U

Angela Gilner

Angela Gilner found Bryan University when she was looking to make a fresh start in her life. She knew she could go out and find a job, but she wanted to find a career. As a child, Angela had to serve on the witness stand in a trial. This experience was traumatic for her, and one that left her with many unanswered questions at a young age. When it came time to look for a career path, she looked back on her experience with curiosity and decided to pursue coursework in the legal field.

Deciding on the paralegal program wasn’t a hard decision. Angela’s motivation was to learn more about the legal situations that she had experienced earlier in life. She decided to enroll in the Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies and Litigation Technologies program at Bryan.  While taking classes, she began to apply what she was learning in class to better understand the situations that happened to her in the past. Learning more about what happened and why ultimately helped her to find closure for the traumas she faced growing up.

Angela’s school funding was made possible from VA grants as well as scholarships from the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation because her father served in the military. She made a promise to him to finish her program, and she successfully completed her associate degree. She is now enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies and Litigation Technologies. She is incredibly grateful to her father and the continued support she is receiving from the Fallen Patriots Foundation.

Her experience with online education at Bryan University has far exceeded her expectations. For Angela, the ability to learn on her own schedule at home was wonderful. The availability of instructors and tutors has been so convenient and has enabled Angela to get help with assignments when she needs it: “The support I receive from the staff is great – they are here for your success.”

Currently, Angela is focusing on the present and working through her bachelor’s program. She credits Bryan University for contributing to the success she has had, and for helping her to start a new life. “This degree is something that can’t be taken away from me.”
